What Do You Consider When Selecting a Plastic Surgeon? Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani Explains

Orlando plastic surgeon Jon Paul Trevisani, MD, highlights some key factors for cosmetic surgery patients to be aware of prior to choosing their physician.

Orlando, FL — With so many surgeons offering cosmetic procedures, many patients can become confused and unsure of how to choose the right doctor, explains Orlando plastic surgeon Jon Paul Trevisani, MD. He says patients who are unaware of what to look for might unintentionally choose a physician who is not properly trained to perform cosmetic surgery. He notes this can lead to unsatisfactory results that potentially could require breast augmentation revision or other revisional procedures from a more qualified surgeon later on. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani explains this can be particularly upsetting for patients who end up with undesirable results after complex procedures such as a mommy makeover, which typically consists of multiple different surgical procedures.

In an effort to assist individuals who are considering breast augmentation, tummy tuck, facelift surgery, or other cosmetic treatments, Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani recently authored a blog post titled, “How to Choose the Right Plastic Surgeon.” In the post, he highlights information he says is crucial for potential patients to be aware of prior to any aesthetic plastic surgery procedure. He stresses the importance of thorough research, noting that referrals from friends and family often help direct patients to the right doctor. The Orlando plastic surgeon also states that one of the most essential things a patient should be looking for in a qualified physician is the proper certification, emphasizing that plastic surgeons should always be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

In a follow-up blog post titled, “Why is Board Certification Important?,” Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani further explains what board certification actually means and why patients should always be sure to check for it. “One of the most important reasons is for your own safety. Doctors who are board certified are held to certain standards that can help to keep you, the patient, safe,” he says. He goes on to explain that in order to maintain each physician’s skills, plastic surgeons who have been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery must complete extensive training in their field, and should participate in regular re-certification and continuing education programs.

Ultimately, Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani stresses the importance of patient education, noting that when patients are well-informed of the qualities to look for in a plastic surgeon, they are typically more likely to achieve the results they desire.
