Which Breast Implant Shape and Size is Best? Orlando Plastic Surgeon Explains

Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani highlights the differences and benefits of various breast implant options.

Orlando, FL — Patients electing to have breast augmentation surgery face many more choices today than in the past – breast implant options now vary in shape, size, texture, and style. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, an Orlando plastic surgeon, says selecting size and shape are two of the most common choices that his patients struggle with. “Many of my patients worry about getting implants that are too big, leading to concerns that they will end up choosing a smaller size, and later wish they had gone bigger.”

Dr. Jon Trevisani says there are many factors to consider to find the right size and shape, and that a size that may seem too large on one patient may be appropriate for another. For this reason, he points out that patients should avoid comparing themselves to a friend, using the implant size and shape their friend chose as a guide for selecting the shape and size that might be right for them.

Dr. Jon Trevisani recently posted a two-part blog series on his website to address what he feels is a common concern for his patients. In the first installment, entitled “Choosing the Right Breast Implant Size,” he highlights important information for patients to consider, depending on the look they desire. He explains that women who want a drastic enhancement need to be aware of the risks associated with extremely large implants. Dr. Jon Trevisani also says implants that are too big can potentially lead to symmastia, a condition that can occur when two implants are so large, they lift skin from the breastbone, essentially merging the breasts together.

At his Orlando plastic surgery practice, Dr. Jon Trevisani uses sizers in the operating room to help give patients a good idea of what size breast implants will best create the silhouette they are looking for. He says, prior to surgery, he selects a range of sizes that could potentially work. Then, during surgery, the sizers are used to decide the exact implant needed. He explains that he inserts a trial sizer, puts the patient into a seated position, and judges if the symmetry and size are correct. If so, he removes the sizer, selects the appropriate implant for surgery, and places it inside the breast pocket.

In the second part of Dr. Jon Trevisani’s blog series, titled “Which Breast Implant Shape is Best?”, he explains how different styles of implants can benefit various body types. He notes that a patient’s chest width can help determine whether a moderate or high-profile implant is best, due to the different sizes of the implant’s base and projection.

Overall, Dr. Jon Trevisani stresses the importance of a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. He says a consultation with a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon can help patients to find the implant size and shape that can best accomplish the look they wish to achieve.
