BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, minimally invasive approach to smoothing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead. The most popular non-surgical enhancement treatment available, BOTOX® Cosmetic can give you a more youthful, refreshed appearance. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, our experienced plastic surgeon, offers this quick, in-office treatment for patients who are looking for more subtle facial enhancement that does not involve an extensive recovery process.
How Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkling primarily in the forehead and Crow’s feet (lateral eye skin) area. This results in giving the skin an even, rejuvenated appearance. During treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the affected area with a tiny needle. A topical numbing agent can be applied to the skin in order to minimize discomfort. The entire procedure takes only about 15 minutes or less to complete, depending on the number of areas being treated.
How Long Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Recovery?
There are very few side effects associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, and there is no apparent scar or mark at the injection site. Although some redness and swelling may be present after treatment, this should dissipate quickly. Most patients can resume normal daily routines immediately. *Optimal results from BOTOX® Cosmetic are typically noticeable within a few days after treatment, and the effects can last three to four months. Results can be maintained with follow-up BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments.

What areas of the face can be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Most commonly used on the forehead and between the brows, BOTOX® Cosmetic can also be used to reduce the fine lines around the eyes called crow’s feet, as well as around the mouth, nose, and chin. Every patient’s needs and goals are unique, which is why we will customize your procedure to best address your individual concerns and help you achieve a more rejuvenated look with beautiful, natural-looking results.
Will it hurt?
Most patients find that BOTOX® injections cause minimal discomfort, and we can utilize cold compresses and local anesthetic to further enhance your experience. We will make every effort to provide an easy and quick treatment.
How long until I see results?
*While some individuals may begin to see the benefits earlier, BOTOX® injections will usually require one week to fully take effect. If you have a special occasion coming up and want to look your best for the event, we recommend you plan your treatment at least one week in advance.
Are there any side effects?
Some side effects, typically very minor, can occur and should fade quickly. These include some minimal bruising, swelling, redness, and tenderness at the injection sites. These symptoms often resolve within hours or a day, and they can be covered with makeup if desired. Many patients schedule their appointment over a lunch break once they realize how quickly the procedure can be performed and how brief the recovery lasts.
Are there any alternative options?
Absolutely. In addition to BOTOX® Cosmetic we offer Dysport®, which is a similar type of neuromodulator. Some people prefer one or the other formula, although they are comparable in effect and length of results. We also have a selection of innovative dermal fillers from the Restylane® product line that can be used to minimize common signs of aging, including volume loss, fine lines, and more. Talk to us about your concerns and we will help you find the ideal approach to addressing them.
