Dysport®

Wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging in the face can be improved with Dysport®, an effective non-surgical enhancement available at our practice. Working much like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® smoothes out the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and creases for a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

What Should I Expect During the Dysport® Procedure?

During the Dysport® procedure, injections will be made into the areas targeted for treatment with an ultra-fine needle. The Dysport® solution is composed of a diluted form of botulinum toxin, which works to temporarily paralyze facial muscles in the target areas and prevent them from contracting. It is this muscle contraction that ultimately causes the formation of wrinkles. *Dysport® can result in a smoother texture to facial skin with a noticeable reduction in wrinkles, fine lines, and creases. The entire procedure typically takes about 15 minutes here at our practice, and there is no downtime required after treatment.

How Long Does Dysport® Recovery Last?

*Some mild swelling and redness can be expected after Dysport® injections; however, this is temporary and should fade quickly. Most patients can resume normal daily activities immediately after treatment. Results from Dysport® often become apparent within the first few days after the procedure, and should continue to improve over the next few weeks. The effects of Dysport® can last about three to four months, and can be maintained with follow-up treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Dysport®

We believe patients who are well-informed about their cosmetic options are more satisfied with their outcomes. With this goal in mind, we have offered answers to some of the most common questions asked about Dysport®. If you have a question not addressed below, or if you’re ready to schedule a consultation, our skilled medical team is available to help.

What concerns can be addressed with Dysport®?

Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® is a neuromodulator that temporarily halts muscle movement to soften the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. Dysport® can also be used to minimize the appearance of wrinkles near the mouth, nose, and chin. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani—our board-certified plastic surgeon—can help you decide where Dysport® can be administered to best achieve your desired outcome.

How is Dysport® different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Some patients prefer Dysport® and others prefer BOTOX® Cosmetic. The primary distinction between the two treatments is that the protein structure in Dysport® is slightly different than that of BOTOX® Cosmetic—something that could potentially alter the outcome for you, but only by a small degree. Some people notice that the effects appear faster with Dysport®, although your experience may vary. Both treat the same areas, both can be completed in about 15 minutes, and both last about the same amount of time.

How long will treatment last?

*Dysport® usually lasts between three months and six months. Repeat patients often see results that last closer to five or six months while first-time users may experience a slightly shorter duration of effects. Again, your experience may vary somewhat.

Does it hurt?

We utilize a local anesthetic to help make your treatment as comfortable and pleasant as possible. We can also use cold compresses to further enhance your experience. Most patients report the procedure is quick and discomfort is minor, and we strive to provide uncompromising care from start to finish.

Can I repeat the treatment to make it last longer?

Yes, and many patients do. Occasional “touch-ups” can extend the length of the benefits by several more months in most cases. If you enjoy the outcome of your treatment, we can help you schedule regular maintenance sessions to preserve your youthful look.
