Other Injectable Fillers
Injectable skin fillers are some of the most innovative cosmetic treatments to come along in decades. They offer effective treatment for temporarily reducing signs of age in the face, as well as augmenting and enhancing facial features such as the lips and cheeks. Even better, injectable skin fillers do not require invasive surgery, and there is typically little to no downtime necessary after treatment. As an extensively trained plastic surgeon, Jon Paul Trevisani, MD offers a variety of popular dermal fillers here at our practice, including Restylane® and Perlane®.
What Is Restylane®?
Recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for lip enhancement, Restylane® is one of the most popular dermal fillers available and can work wonders at temporarily reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines along the face, as well as adding volume to the lips for a more sensual appearance. Restylane® is composed of a solution containing hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. There is typically no need to have an allergy test before attaining Restylane® treatment. During the procedure, Restylane® will be injected with a very fine needle into the areas targeted for rejuvenation – whether they be creases and wrinkles along the face, lines between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), or the lips for the benefit of a fuller contour. *The entire procedure typically takes under 30 minutes to complete, and you should be able to resume your normal daily routine immediately.
Although there may be some temporary redness and swelling around the areas of injection, this should fade quickly. *Results of Restylane® have been known to last at least six months, and even up to a year in some cases. You can keep the effects of Restylane® going with occasional “touch-up” treatments.
What Is Perlane®?
Perlane® can have a number of cosmetic benefits, including filling in deep wrinkles and facial folds, as well as smoothing out lines between the nose and mouth. It can also be used to add volume to the lips and reduce signs of depressions and mild scarring along the face. Like Restylane®, Perlane® is composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body, and therefore does not typically require an allergy test. Perlane® is injected into the target areas with an ultra-fine needle in a procedure that can be performed over your lunch hour. *There is no downtime associated with Perlane® treatments, and you should be able to resume your regular routine right after the procedure.
There will likely be some redness and swelling around the injection sites for a few days after treatment; however, this is normal and should dissipate within a few days. *The results of Perlane® can last up to six months, and be maintained with follow-up treatment.
Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and those who have certain medical conditions or are on blood-thinning drugs should not be treated with Perlane®. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani will explain all of your options to you during your initial consultation, and suggest alternative treatments if Perlane® is not the best option for your needs.
