What Breast Implants To Choose – Saline or Silicone?

Last Friday the first trivia question was posted on our Facebook Page to start off the “Feeling Fit and Fabulous” Contest and plenty of responses came flooding! The question was ‘When considering breast implants would you choose Saline or Silicone, and tell us why?’ At the Aesthetic Surgery Centre by Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, patients are choosing silicone over saline implants. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani attributes this propensity for silicone breast implants to a more natural look and feel of the new generation of implants, which now use a cohesive silicone gel. “There are two main differences between the new generation of silicone implants and the silicone implants of the past. The first is that the outer shell or covering of the implant is thicker... Continue Reading

Why is Board Certification Important?

You’ve probably heard that when having cosmetic surgery it is important to have a plastic surgeon who is board certified. But what does board certification really mean? Why is it so important? One of the most important reasons is for your own safety. Doctors who are board certified are held to certain standards that can help to keep you, the patient, safe. This certification also means that your physician has gone through rigorous training. This helps patients to be sure that their doctor is knowledgeable and skilled in the area of medicine they specialize in. Aesthetic plastic surgeons should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only organization recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) for certifying plastic surgeons. Another... Continue Reading

How to Choose the Right Plastic Surgeon

When considering plastic surgery, finding the surgeon who you are most comfortable with is important. You want to feel confident in his or her skill, as well. Before moving forward with any cosmetic surgery, I always recommend for patients to conduct thorough research. Once you’ve selected a few surgeons, look into each physician’s education, experience, and professional background. Review before and after photos, read through patient reviews and testimonials, and don’t forget to check the doctor’s board certification. Plastic surgeons should always be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Schedule a... Continue Reading

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) has consistently recognized the American Board of Plastic Surgery as the only medical sub-specialty board responsible for the certification and training of plastic and reconstructive surgeons. Board certification must be renewed every ten years to maintain the highest... Continue Reading

What To Do With “Sloshing” Noises After Surgery?

Last Friday we posted the following scenario on Facebook: Mrs. Kendall Doubledee undergoes saline breast augmentation a couple of days ago. She is hearing what sounds like 'swishing', 'sloshing', 'water-like' noises. What should Kendall do? "Sloshing" or "Water-Like" noises coming from the breasts after breast implant surgery is quite common because air gets into the pocket during surgery. Additionally, during surgery the pocket is irrigated with saline and it is the combination of this residual fluid that is remaining and the air that gives the "sloshing" noise postoperatively. There is no harm in this and nothing to worry about. Both the air and the fluid will be reabsorbed by your body over the first few weeks after surgery. About Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani Dr. Jon...
