For many patients, the lower abdomen often remains a major cosmetic concern in spite of a healthy diet and routine exercise. When you spend a significant amount of time and energy eating well and working out, frustration at stubborn pockets of fat or lingering excess skin can develop. Fortunately, our extensively trained plastic surgeon, Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, offers two body contouring procedures that can effectively create the silhouette you have been working toward. If there is a layer of fat around your midsection that seems resistant to traditional methods of weight loss, liposuction may be the ideal procedure. Also used to slim areas of the body such as the arms, chin, flanks (hips), or knees, liposuction often can effectively remove unwanted fat for a... Continue Reading
An abdominoplasty—more commonly called a tummy tuck—is designed to eliminate excess skin around the midsection as well as tighten the underlying abdominal muscles. An incision is made from one hip to the other to achieve a flatter stomach, repair stretched or torn muscles beneath the skin, and redrape the remaining skin. Although most patients are ultimately very happy with their tummy tuck results, prospective patients are often nervous about the placement and appearance of the scar. During the consultation process, board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani will review your expectations as well as perform a physical exam to give you an idea of where the incision will be placed. By making the surgical incision low on the abdomen, the resulting scar can typically... Continue Reading
Breast augmentation continues to be one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures — in fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently reported that it is still the #1 cosmetic surgery procedure, with 279,143 breast augmentations performed in 2015. Unfortunately, some women interested in breast enhancement might perceive it as a procedure only younger women undergo, and therefore avoid it. However, the truth is that there is no age limit when it comes to breast augmentation. Candidacy is actually determined by other factors, such as the patient’s overall health. While a patient’s age does not necessarily disqualify them from receiving breast implants, it can sometimes affect their aesthetic goals — for example, a younger patient is likely to be mostly concerned with increasing their... This question is a common concern among women interested in breast augmentation, but you can rest assured knowing that a mammogram can be effectively completed on breasts with implants. Experienced radiologists can examine an augmented breast by using specialized techniques, but the specific method used will depend on the breast implant placement (above or below the pectoral muscle). “Implant displacement” is typically the best approach for patients who have breast implants that are below the chest muscle. Using this method, the radiologist can push the implant back along the patient’s chest wall while pulling the breast tissue forward to capture four images (in addition to the four standard x-ray views). In some rare cases, the implants might continue to obstruct the views too much. In... Continue Reading
First of all, what is a Mommy Makeover? This procedure combines multiple cosmetic enhancement techniques to help restore the body to its pre-pregnancy figure. Breast lift and tummy tuck surgery typically will be included, and breast augmentation, liposuction, and/or facial rejuvenation can be added to further enhance the result. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, our board certified plastic surgeon, customizes Mommy Makeover surgery to suit the unique needs and goals of each woman. Many women, although delighted to be mothers, are unsatisfied with how their bodies have transformed in the maternity process. Common concerns like sagging or deflated breasts and abdominal skin and muscle laxity often resist traditional means of improvement, including diet and exercise. A Mommy Makeover, however, is designed to treat these specific issues.... Continue Reading
Many patients come into our office requesting specific plastic surgery procedures to address their concerns. Unfortunately, when an individual does not meet candidacy requirements for the procedure they have expressed interest in, Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani advises against it. Fortunately, a one-on-one patient consultation can allow Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani to recommend an alternative treatment whenever possible, including non-surgical options. In the consultation, Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani can learn more about what the patient wishes to accomplish with aesthetic surgery. Based on the patient’s desired outcomes, he can suggest the treatment(s) or procedure(s) that may best achieve the patient’s goals safely and effectively. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani also believes it is important to provide patients with realistic expectations -- if the requested procedure is likely... Continue Reading
Although abdominoplasty is a popular procedure for women who have already had children (usually as part of a mommy makeover), some patients may decide to have children afterward - whether or not they have already been through childbirth in the past. Some patients have expressed concern over whether or not the procedure will affect their ability to carry a baby, but pregnancy after an abdominoplasty is completely possible. It is important to note, however, that some women may experience loosening of the abdominal wall and/or excess loose skin on the abdomen following childbirth. In these cases, women who have already had a tummy tuck may be faced with a decision to repeat the procedure. Ultimately, it is usually best to delay tummy tuck surgery until... Continue Reading
